Unleashing Your Potential:

The Adventure of Internal Mobility

“The Pathfinder program not only helped me expand my career, but also developed my self-confidence and mental agility.”

— Tracee Patterson, Senior Business Operations Analyst

As a Senior Business Operations Analyst on the Wireless Real Estate team, Tracee was proud of her elevated level of responsibility helping to expand Boost Mobile's nationwide footprint. She knew she would be working to support the latest technology for a rising wireless provider. Her determination and commitment to make the most of her opportunities led her to this moment. Tracee Patterson was officially a leader influencing the direction of the company where she had built her career through the internal mobility program called Pathfinder.

Tracee Patterson started her EchoStar journey in Arizona as a senior supervisor in broadcasting. As her story unfolds, one thing is undeniably clear: Pathfinder is more than a simple internal mobility program; it’s a launchpad for her career.

Tracee always sought opportunities to help those around her grow their skills, responsibilities and careers. She saw each training and development program as a chance to promote the success of her colleagues. While seeking these opportunities to support the growth of her team members, Tracee discovered the Pathfinder program. She leveraged the program to support her team members search for new positions and her own move into commercial fiber deployment, moving from Arizona to the company headquarters in Denver. In this new role, Tracee helped deploy fiber optics to apartments and hospitality facilities, and developed relationships with cross-functional teams. Throughout her experience, she experienced amazing support from her former colleagues and team members across the Talent Acquisition team.

Through the Pathfinder program Tracee was able to cross into three departments within the company. Tracee credits the leader of the Pathfinder program, Brittany Busse, with finding positions where participants could “leverage their transferable skills but still have room for growth.” In her new role, Tracee was amazed at how much she learned about a completely different side of the business and all the new relationships she developed along the way.

Tracee’s appetite for personal growth only grew over time and she used Pathfinder again to explore new internal mobility opportunities. She appreciated how “the Pathfinder program not only helped me expand my career, but also developed my self-confidence and mental agility.” Thanks to the clarity and transparency provided by the Pathfinder program, she joined the fastest growing part of EchoStar’s business in a new role as part of the rapidly growing retail wireless team. Again, she reflected on the support and guidance from the program. “All I had to do was look at the job postings, then I understood that those were the areas of focus in the business,” Tracee explained.

For Pathfinder candidates, role playing in practice interview settings helps build the skills and confidence necessary to succeed in the actual interview process. Most of all, Tracee appreciated the work that the Pathfinder team put into identifying specific details of roles that would be a good fit for her career.

Tracee leveraged the skills and network she built throughout her Pathfinder experiences to land her current role in business operations. “Finding the next opportunity was always so simple. I realized I wanted to make a move, looked through the job description for things that would energize me and develop my skill set, applied to the role and received career advice and coaching to help me achieve my goal,” Tracee explains. Drawing from the lessons she learned from the Pathfinder program, Tracee shaped her career with the belief she could steer it in any direction she chose. The Pathfinder program seeks to embody this ideal as their mantra: “Our greatest benefit is opportunity”.

The Pathfinder Program

Pathfinder is an EchoStar internal mobility program dedicated to the development and advancement of our team members. It helps team members identify open positions throughout the company and apply to them. The program then supports applicants throughout the application process, with resume and LinkedIn profile development, interview preparation and networking opportunities. Applicants are eligible to apply for positions throughout our organization, regardless of their current role.

Pathfinder program leaders even host monthly lunch-and-learn sessions for team members interested in exploring new career opportunities, but who are not yet ready to apply. During these sessions, all team members are welcome to attend and learn about new areas of the organization and the teams supporting related initiatives.
